据zone-h.org报导，微软2000和NT4的源代码已经通过P2P网络和地下IRC频道在网上开始流传。不管是何人以何种方式获取的源代码，这次的泄露对网络安全是一个重大事件。Windows的安全性部分上是以其封闭性来保证的，在源代码暴露后，必将会有更多的漏洞被发现。
